What better way to start the new year than with a really cute baby, right? This little guy below is all smiles and I loved capturing those happy grins.
Funny thing, during the shoot, he didn’t seem too concerned with the election, taxes, how much money he makes, or how good-looking he is (although, let’s be honest, he doesn’t have to worry here). Babies have a purity about them that is magical. Where else do we find such true innocence? He is cute to look at, but there is a lesson in that smile too. Here’s to not crying over spilled milk. Thanks little dude.
Coming from the deserts and beaches of California, we aren’t too familiar with snow….fast forward to us living in Colorado and that is quickly changing! We find ourselves going outside in heavy snow to just wander around and be in it, which is fun! Totally new life experiences for us that I am glad we will be able to look back on.
To celebrate the new look for my blog, I put together a few collages with a some of my favorite photos from each of these categories: Portraits, Nature, Automobiles, Athletes, and Animals.
Be sure to take the poll at the bottom and vote for your favorite! Also, leave a comment with your thoughts on the new look & feel of the blog!
This change up comes in anticipation of the new year and my recent relocation to the greater Denver, CO area. The change has made me and my family happy, so this is a bit of a happier look for my site! 🙂
Seriously. This particular portrait session I came away with so many that I genuinely liked, that it was hard to narrow it down to these in this post! I guess that’s a good problem to have. Laguna beach rarely disappoints when it comes to golden hour photos. On this particular day, there was a high surf warning and huge (to me) waves! This made grabbing some of the shots next to the water a little hair-raising, but Darlene handled it like a pro!
This shot above was actually an “accidental” shot in that Darlene was not trying to pose. As she did her thing, I was looking for potential shots. Times like these make a pose that may not look natural seem natural because the subject is not trying or forcing a pose. I like these moments.
This image above is one of my all time favorites. This image looks great in color too, but it is just so classically beautiful in B&W to me. Love it.
You can see above that the surf is a bit feisty in the background! It was fun and we made sure to watch each others’ backs when doing these shots. There were a few times we had to stop what we were doing and brace or flee!
Having fun, a necessity on a photo shoot!
OK, is that next set of waves going to take me out or do I have time?….oh and this is fun!
So this is another one of my newly acquired all time faves. 2 from one shoot?
This was Darlene’s idea and I really like the way it turned out!
Beautiful colors going on here. This was during the last 15 minutes of sunlight.
Such a simple but powerful image.
Thank you for viewing, let me know what you think!

Testing 123…whoops! If you are signed up to receive emails, I sent this out a tad prematurely… 🙂 ANYWAYS, the CA central coast is ridiculously beautiful. Just a few hours above Santa Barbara brings you to the small town of Cambria. This tiny town and the surrounding coastal area is truly a sight to see. Rolling hills that transition between open plains and forests meet the rocky coastline waters. Deer roam freely and abundantly across the grounds while seals of various kinds happily (and not so happily) sleep on the shore. I highly recommend visiting and cruising HWY 1 along the coast in this area, you will not be disappointed. It is so peaceful here, you will want to extend your stay, however long that may be.
The images below were taken over the course of a few days in the Cambria and surrounding areas. Click on them for a bigger version.
My wife and I recently visited Kauai, HI. We went there for our honeymoon 2 years ago and loved it so much that we went back. It is so beautiful there, I highly recommend it to anyone who has not been! They call it the “Garden Isle” for a reason – 360 degrees of beautiful, raw nature.
While there I took my camera, of course, and attempted to capture they way I saw the island, the beauty. Below is a collection of those images. I singled out a few below and then put the rest in a gallery below these. I hope it gives you a sense of “Ahhh” 🙂
I forced my brother to take some pics down at the beach yesterday because he has become quite the Thor as of late. He did it reluctantly and didn’t know I would be posting a pic either 😉 I just wanted him to have some cool shots of “Back when I was in the best shape of my life” when he gets older. I am only posting the one for now so he doesn’t kill me! Besides that, it was a beautiful day at the beach and so I snapped a few other shots of the surroundings on our walk to the water. Good times!
