On a photo walk the other day, I was greeted with this beautiful image. Lucky thing too because the clouds and wind quickly rolled in cutting our walk short! It’s captures like this that remind me of the beautiful outdoors around me. It’s easy to get normalized to your surroundings, so you have to make a point to hit that reset button every once in awhile.
It’s been a while since I posted, miss me? Moving to a new state and starting a new job, turns out, is pretty time-consuming. Who would’ve thought? I have had to put my photography on a bit of a back-burner, but I hope to get things going again here soon! I was out in the Rockies this last weekend and it was amazing.
The shot below is a small step in the right direction. I hope to better hone my landscape skills out here with such ample subjects!
Coming from the deserts and beaches of California, we aren’t too familiar with snow….fast forward to us living in Colorado and that is quickly changing! We find ourselves going outside in heavy snow to just wander around and be in it, which is fun! Totally new life experiences for us that I am glad we will be able to look back on.
Tonight I updated the landing page on myportfolio, showcasing some of my favorite people photos! Check it out when you get a chance and let me know what you think. I go back and forth with showcasing my people photos and my landscape photos. I hope you enjoy this iteration while it lasts! 🙂
I want to do more work with people in my new state of Colorado. I am definitely not lacking in nature subjects! With this focus, I want to show this side of my work more clearly. I gravitate toward natural light (outdoors) portraits anyways, so the combination of my landscape love and people should make for some fun images.
If you know anyone in the greater Denver area who may enjoy some fantastic photos of themselves or loved ones, feel free to share my name!
To celebrate the new look for my blog, I put together a few collages with a some of my favorite photos from each of these categories: Portraits, Nature, Automobiles, Athletes, and Animals.
Be sure to take the poll at the bottom and vote for your favorite! Also, leave a comment with your thoughts on the new look & feel of the blog!
This change up comes in anticipation of the new year and my recent relocation to the greater Denver, CO area. The change has made me and my family happy, so this is a bit of a happier look for my site! 🙂
While out driving around seeing what I could see, I came across the Hornbek Homestead (link below). Not only is the countryside in this area beautiful, but the drive there is beautiful too. Here are a few images from one of my trips there.
I came up on this part of road unexpectedly and had to swerve off the road to capture it once I saw it, it was just so picturesque to me. I had to dodge a couple on coming cars as I was in the middle of the road trying to get this shot. I am happy I did!
This is a close up of the front door on the Hornbek Homestead I posted about here.
Random dirt road in the middle of nowhere next to a barbed wire fence at dusk.
There is a nature walk at the Hornbek Homestead that crosses this awesome little bridge. This is the view looking out into the nature to come once you cross it.
This is part of the valley you see on the nature walk as you are crossing the bridge above. As I was walking into the valley, I saw a fox running off into the canyon. It is some beautiful nature out here!
Flowers like these adorn the trail all over. I had to capture one of these, they were very pretty!
Seriously. This particular portrait session I came away with so many that I genuinely liked, that it was hard to narrow it down to these in this post! I guess that’s a good problem to have. Laguna beach rarely disappoints when it comes to golden hour photos. On this particular day, there was a high surf warning and huge (to me) waves! This made grabbing some of the shots next to the water a little hair-raising, but Darlene handled it like a pro!
This shot above was actually an “accidental” shot in that Darlene was not trying to pose. As she did her thing, I was looking for potential shots. Times like these make a pose that may not look natural seem natural because the subject is not trying or forcing a pose. I like these moments.
This image above is one of my all time favorites. This image looks great in color too, but it is just so classically beautiful in B&W to me. Love it.
You can see above that the surf is a bit feisty in the background! It was fun and we made sure to watch each others’ backs when doing these shots. There were a few times we had to stop what we were doing and brace or flee!
Having fun, a necessity on a photo shoot!
OK, is that next set of waves going to take me out or do I have time?….oh and this is fun!
So this is another one of my newly acquired all time faves. 2 from one shoot?
This was Darlene’s idea and I really like the way it turned out!
Beautiful colors going on here. This was during the last 15 minutes of sunlight.
Such a simple but powerful image.
Thank you for viewing, let me know what you think!
